Questions from a Sinful Heart > Week 4: The Day of the Lord

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

God’s people have a habit of dropping the ball. The Old Tesament tells the story of God’s goodness, his instructions on living life his way, God people responding, God’s people fumbling the instructions, God sending a messager, and the people returning to God with confession and repentance. Pastor Derek explains that while God will judge people for their sin, he first made a way to rescue people through their sins. The day of the Lord is the coming of Jesus who came first to rescue us from our sins and who will come again to judge us for our sins.

Questions from a Sinful Heart > Week 2: A Pure Offering

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

Malachi 1:11-2:2
Pastor Derek discusses worship that is passionate and wholistic in this second message from the book of Malachi. God has called his people to bring to him a pure offering. For Israel a pure offering meant an animal without defect of blemish. For us who follow Jesus, it means giving our whole selves to God in worship. Jesus described this kind of worshipful relationship as love with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Questions from A Sinful Heart > Week 1: Love, Hate, & Worship

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

Malachi 1:1-10
In a new study of the book of Malachi, Pastor Derek wrestles with the issue of God loving Jacob and hating Essau. God has declared his love to his people who have drifted away from him. The people ask how God has loved them, a question revealing their sinful heart.

This message deals with the doctrine election and our responsibility as God’s people in offering ourselves as living sacrifices. Pastor Derek also discusses Cornerstone’s participation in Lent, a 40-day period of prayer and fasting leading up to Easter.
